Graduating from Learning Poverty

Education is central to reducing poverty and inequality. Education raises income, reduces unemployment, and increases social mobility over the lifespan and across generations. The Pulte Institute is partnering with three international organizations to conduct collaborative research on their ongoing basic literacy and numeracy interventions to answer the following questions:

• How to ensure that effective approaches can scale up effectively and sustainably?

• How to ensure that effective approaches reach all learners across all contexts, especially the most vulnerable?

• How to ensure that effective approaches are adequately robust to ensure long-term flourishing for vulnerable students?

• What is the impact of different interventions on vulnerable students' learning outcomes?

Each of the partnering organizations is doing pioneering work with a combination of interventions that have demonstrated success in improving education outcomes, including differentiated classroom instruction and after-school and summer school remediation. In collaboration with the University's strategic local partners, the research team will advance policy and research impact to benefit the lives of vulnerable children at scale in places where learning outcomes are among the lowest globally.
