Baxter Kamana-Williams

Postdoctoral Research Fellow

Baxter Kamana-Williams is an engineer and researcher in energy systems, working to understand the key drivers of energy use and their implications for energy security, energy poverty, and a just, sustainable energy transition. At the University of Notre Dame, he works with Dr. Emily Grubert on demand-side building interventions and deep decarbonization of the U.S. energy system.

Kamana-Williams grew up in Ōtautahi (Christchurch), Aotearoa, New Zealand, and completed his BE(Hons) and Ph.D., both in mechanical engineering, at the University of Canterbury. His research developed novel, agent-based models of residential energy demand, which allow detailed analysis of inter- and intra-personal behavioral variations across both geographic and socioeconomic ranges, and inform the design of demand-side energy policy for a just transition.
