In 2021, the Pulte Institute was selected by the U.S. Department of State for a program facilitated by the U.S. Embassy in Algiers to accelerate the pace of STEM learning in the North African country. The goal was for the Pulte Institute, along with other Notre Dame partners, including the IDEA Center, to collaborate with academic institutions in Algeria to create a Research Hub where researchers, academics, and students from both countries could work together on scientific research more efficiently.

This video, produced by U.S. Embassy in Algiers, highlights the ongoing partnership between Notre Dame, Algeria's Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE), Sidi Abdellah University, The National School of Artificial Intelligence (ENSIA), and The National Higher School of Mathematics (NHSM) to use AI technology to open new horizons for commercialization.

Earlier this year, Pulte's Entrepreneurship and Education Program Director, Integration Lab (i-Lab) Administrative Director, and Professor of the Practice Melissa Paulsen and The IDEA Center's Assistant Director for Researcher Engagement Steve Asiala and Director of Derisking Ben Hoggan, traveled to Sidi Abdellah University Campus to lead a Derisking and Commercialization Workshop. Academic inventions can be challenging to manufacture. The Notre Dame team worked with the researchers on advancing their products on the Technology Readiness Levels (TRL) scale and offered advice on transferring their inventions from the lab to the market.

The Notre Dame team also discussed AI's inroads in commercialization and the larger roles they expect it to take on in the coming years. Given the technology's enormous potential, it's crucial to understand the types of commercialization AI applications available today and how they may evolve.

The Pulte Institute looks forward to continuing to learn, grow, and make advancements in research alongside our partners within Algeria's Ministry of Higher Education, Sidi Abdellah University, The National School of Artificial Intelligence (ENSIA), and The National Higher School of Mathematics.
