Clean Cookstoves for Health

The Pulte Institute conducted an impact evaluation in northern Ugandan villages to determine the health impacts of a new type of clean cookstove. In these communities, health-related issues arose from air pollution and exposure to carbon monoxide, generated from cooking food. In this Hilton Foundation-funded study, the Pulte Institute used a cluster randomized control trial methodology to measure the socioeconomic and health status of the population, along with basic water and sanitation components. In addition, members of the Community Health Clubs collected health statistics from the local health clinics to track any changes on the incidence of diseases related to indoor air pollution and a lack of safe drinking water.
